The Fit Out Awards 2024 celebrated the pinnacle of excellence in design and innovation, bringing together Ireland’s leading firms and professionals to honour outstanding achievements in the industry. Among this year’s standout winners was Reddy Architecture + Urbanism (Reddy A+U), an international firm renowned for its commitment to creating spaces that thrive for both people and the planet.
Under the leadership of Lisa Smyth, Director and Head of Interiors, Reddy A+U triumphed with three prestigious awards: Overall Fit Out Project of the Year and Tourism and Leisure Project of the Year for their exemplary work on New Market Yards, and Healthcare Project of the Year for the groundbreaking Four Ferns project.
In this Q&A, Lisa Smyth shares insights into the projects that led to these remarkable accolades, the values driving Reddy A+U’s mission, and the significance of industry recognition at the Fit Out Awards.
1. What do you believe sets your entry apart from the other nominees this year?
The standard of entries this year was exceptional, and we extend our congratulations to all shortlisted companies. For New Market Yards, the layered approach to design truly stood out—spanning space planning, universal design, sustainable materials, bespoke joinery, and site-specific artwork that enhanced placemaking. Similarly, The Four Ferns set a benchmark in elderly care design, driven by extensive research, a non-traditional clinical approach, and collaboration with senior care staff to create a thoughtfully considered solution.
2. Can you tell us more about the project or innovation that you believe most contributed to this win?
Both projects are characterised by a human-centric design and rich layering of elements. At New Market Yards, the clever layout of amenities, roof terraces, bespoke joinery, and art installations garnered praise from end users and industry leaders.
At The Four Ferns, the emphasis on sensory connection through textures, materials, and personalized design elements ensured residents felt connected to their environment, reflecting their history and life experiences.
3. What does this award mean for your clients and partners?
These awards are a testament to the long-term collaboration with our clients and design teams. New Market Yards was a six-year journey, and it’s deeply gratifying to see the project resonate so positively. For The Four Ferns, our continued partnership with Virtue Healthcare allowed us to refine and improve our design solutions, ensuring we meet and exceed the needs of our clients and their stakeholders.
4. How does this award reflect Reddy A+U's mission and values?
Both projects epitomise Reddy A+U’s mission: to create human-centric, sustainable designs that are buildable, workable, and best-in-class for clients and end users. New Market Yards and The Four Ferns exemplify this through innovative, thoughtful solutions tailored to the community's and end-users' needs.
5. Why do you think companies like yours should enter the awards?
The awards night was a wonderful opportunity to connect and celebrate achievements with clients, collaborative teams, and suppliers. Recognising excellence in design validates the hard work of all involved, inspires continued innovation, and sets benchmarks for future projects.
